Cyient, a leading digital engineering and technology solutions provider, has reportedly signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SR University, a renowned Indian institution in the field of academics and research, to effectively help with the advancement of the Additive Manufacturing field.
The company will help SR University develop an industry-oriented curriculum keeping advanced manufacturing systems at the core. The curriculum will effectively help the university bridge the skill gap between the availability and need of resources trained in fields like the design for additive manufacturing.
The Hyderabad based company has been a major user and promoter of additive manufacturing technology. It has also established metal additive and polymer manufacturing facilities in the U.S. and India. The firm has worked with major companies in various fields including transportation, industrial, energy, medical technology, defense, and aerospace to facilitate functionally superior parts made using additive manufacturing with uses in obsolescence management, reverse engineering, and tooling.
Last year the company trained more than 100 associates in the design for AM from its detailed internal training program. Cyient will also share its field expertise with the goal of furthering student as well as faculty research at the university.
Rajendra Velagapudi, Sr Vice President, Cyient, stated that through this partnership, SR University and Cyient will together advance India’s additive manufacturing industry, which is a crucial part of the Indian Government’s Make In India program. Both organizations, together will make industry-ready engineers that have distinguished expertise in additive manufacturing to develop advanced solutions. This would further drive the country to be a leader in the field as firms throughout the globe focus on digital transformation and turn to additive manufacturing as a major part of their supply chains.
Velagapudi further added that the company would look to its academic partners like SR University to lead innovation from industry aligned R&D across various fields like process controls, design, and advanced materials.
