Mars, Inc. has recently revealed plans to launch a new vegan alternative to its famous Galaxy bar in the UK, making it the first mainstream confectionery brand to provide consumers with a plant-based option to milk chocolate. Reportedly, the Vegan Society certified new chocolate bar would be presented in three flavors, namely caramel & sea salt, smooth orange and caramelized hazelnut. The company plans to initiate the sale online on Amazon and intends to sell it in selected stores such as Ocado and Tesco. However, Mars has surprisingly priced the 100g vegan bar at £3 which is twice the price of the regular Galaxy. Speaking on the move, Linda Lopez, Head of the Sensory team, Mars, said that the company has maintained the taste for Galaxy for the last 60 years and are trying to preserve the same classic creamy and smooth taste and texture in the new product without compromise. Earlier this year, Mars had made headlines when it revealed that it would be bringing back the Marathon bars to the UK. For the last 30 years, Mars had labeled its marathon bars as Snickers. As per reports, the nutty snack would once again be called Marathon in Morrisons in its three-month trial. For the record, Marathon bar switched to Snickers in 1990, a move that came after the company decided to change the British brand’s name so that it could keep its relevancy with the global market. However, the company has re-registered the name as a UK trademark, and it has repeatedly confirmed through several news publications that its Marathon bars would keep the same recipe as Snickers. This would ensure that their chocolate fans don’t get worried about the change. As for the vegan offering, Abigail Stevens the Vegan Society’s Trademark Marketing Manager, said that they are proud to register Galaxy’s first ever non-dairy milk chocolate with our vegan trademark.
