US DOE awards $3.8 billion contract to BSRA to manage the SRNL

The US DOE (Department of Energy) has reportedly selected the Battelle Savannah River Alliance (BSRA) to manage the SRNL (Savannah River National Laboratory), which is one of the leading energy, environmental, and national security facilities in the nation.

According to sources, the agreement includes a 5 year base with five one-year options. The expected value of the deal is USD 3.8 billion through the course of ten years if all options are exercised.

SRNL conducts R &D for several federal agencies, offering cost-effective, practical solutions for the nation’s nuclear security, environmental, and energy & manufacturing challenges. As the U.S. DOE’s Environmental Management Laboratory, the facility offers technological and strategic science for the nation’s USD 6 billion/year waste clean-up program.

Speaking on which, Lou Von Thaer, President and CEO at Battelle said that the alliance is honored by the agency’s decision to award the management and operation contract of the SRNL to the BSRA team. BSRA has the lab management expertise to make a difference and the alliance is dedicated to assuring the success of this pivotal national resource.

For the record, Battelle presently has a management role at seven US DOE national labs including Lawrence Livermore National Lab, Los Alamos National Lab, Idaho National Lab, Oak Ridge National Lab, Brookhaven National Lab, National Renewable Energy Lab, and Pacific Northwest National Lab.
